Retouching / Compositing Examples:

 

Bigelow Tea:

Assignment: Silhouette and composite several stock shots for 2 separate iced tea and lemonade packages. The iced tea pitcher
had to be duplicated, flopped and adjusted to look like a pitcher of lemonade:

Titleist (Arnold):

Assignment: Composite several photos into one believable product shot, manufacturing shadows, reflections and surface and background colors.:

 

The final image, presented to the client as a layered .PSD file (to allow for element movement and to allow adjustment of shadow/reflection opacities:

 

Zappos

We shot 4 puppets for use in print and web. On this one:

 

we needed to use the head from another shot, change some colors, fix some imperfections and then 'remove' the hand, which in reality means duplicating the right side and laying that over the left side and then silo the whole thing:

 

The use was in an ad that was mostly copy, with the image coming in from the lower right:


 

Quest Diagnostics

The Client wanted to produce a mailer that looked like a laptop PC and would 'open' like one. Shot all 4 surfaces (laptops don't unfold enough to lay flat), combined images into 'inside' and 'outside' shots, removed logos, squared off corners, etc.

Radio Shack:

Assignment: Shoot several products that Radio Shack sells, silo them and put them together to represent a whole new product/system. This one was a laptop and web cam set up as a cell phone video monitor. We started with the shots of the laptop, webcam and cell phone:

 

We added a shot of the cell phone display and stock shot of a dog at a refrigerator and 'lit up' the cell phone buttons. The final looked like this:

 

New England Baptist Hospital (Allen & Gerritsen):

Assignment: Change the '19' (which represented the number of years the NEBH was associated with the Boston Celtics) to a '20' and then a '21'. These were published in Celtics programs over a 3 year period.

 

Chartis (Partners and Simons):

Assignment: Take a horizontal stock shot of a couple sitting on a sailboat and make it vertical, to accomodate type and graphics. This required the removal of the orange buoy and its reflected color, the enhancement of the photo's colors and the manufacturing of ripples and reflections therein in the foreground.

Assignment: silo and composite multiple images for use in sales brochure.

Ocean Spray (Mullen)

 

We did a couple of series of this type of thing, using most if not all of Ocean Spray's products. In this example, we had to silo the shot, make the crate look 'not so new', add a piece from a previous shoot and in general, 'pump everything up':

NCR (Partners and Simons)

Assignment: Shoot and silo images for client's image library. Two examples here, over one hundred done. The reflections were supplied on a separate layer and in a blending mode that would make them look real when the images were placed in any given environment.


 

 

The client, a legal firm, did a series of ads depicting risky activities. In this one, we shot a man's hand offering treats and composited it with a stock shot of a bear:
